Mayflower is the ship that took the separatist pilgrims from England to north side of US? If so, I don't understand what Ivy League means (I know that's about sport); especially "poison Ivy League".

I think that this short poem has a lot of meanings.

With the pleasure of lecturing,
Marius

... I almost forgot: what is the connection with the "theft" from the title?

Thank you very much!

Best wishes,
Marius

Thanks a lot for your comment, Marius. Yes, there are some
meanings to be unveiled here. First; The Theft of a Nation.
Before the pilgrims arrived this area belonged to the Indian
Wampanoag nation. One of the first things the immigrants did, when arriving on their soil, was stealing from the indians winter supply of corn. Who took over the land in the long run? We all know the answer.
Poison Ivy League? A double meaning. Ivy League universities are among the best in the US. A number of people claiming to be ancestors of named Mayflower pilgrims
have had an education there. These people usually belong to the White Anglo-Saxon Protestant bourgeoisie.
Poison Ivy...because this league wouldn't have existed without the very theft of the Wamponoag nation.

Thank you Willy for your explanation!
I've heard something about Ivy League, proclaiming them the ancestors but I didn't know the whole story. Now I understand perfectly all.

Thank you once again for clearing my thoughts.

Best wishes,
Marius
