We all know the precise importance of knowing the so expressive “irregular verb” forms of the English tongue. A teacher of English will have to tell students one day, that these “irregular verbs” are nevertheless the backbone of English’s daily vocabulary. So it may happen dear friend that those annoying recurrent irregularities are just your blessed day by day life, regardless of how much you would dream about just a bit of “rule of the regular” for your life. But this is not exactly my subject for today.
“Go, went, gone”: melody for those of us who had to learn by heart the pretty many English irregular verb forms. Words reminding me of the so many “go” commands revealed in the Word of God. It was probably a “go” understood by Adam when they were told to be fruitful and multiply, replenishing the Earth. It was another thundered “go”, when Adam and Eve had to leave the home of their Creator’s Eden. And it might have been another “Go”, that set our Lord Jesus on His Via Dolorosa. This is why this “go” sounded again when we were told to make disciples in His Mighty Name.
Have we listened? Have we “went”? Or we are just “gone”, leaving behind a Father crying behind us, with a “left behind” piece of our painful memory in his heart?
You see, “go and went” are still matters of choice, but “gone” is way to often just sad and useless history. “Go and went” are not only choices but chances too. Chances to obey, choices of humility and respect for the God who created us and talks to us. Dear friend, let us consider Jesus! The Jesus who isn’t “gone”! The Jesus who “went”, to gloriously “come”!
Yes, it may take a miracle to have you back from being “gone”. “Gone” astray from your loving Creator Father, “gone” to trade your God given talents for the world’s big “nothing”. Do we hear the Holy Spirit’s presence? The same presence which was there in the Beginning, above the depths of God’s yet “without form and void” Creation, moving to perfect the order of God’s Eternal Plan.
This same Presence is there with you today, to re-create in Christ’s perfect order the chaos you left behind. As I said, He’s not “gone”! He’s coming back for me!
What about you?
