All that is metal in them works loose, comes off, breaks free, The nails start out and rush forth into its shores to dirt. O no, this is no yarn… With me it’s been the same: All that held me together and steered me safely through: The will of steel, the proud heart, the burning thirst for fame Have all run wild and left me, to go and cling to you. But there was love, and love came to take the place of all, And with enchanted fetters and chains has bound me fast: Here have I cast my anchor, and now, a happy thrall Have but one wish — to live here up to my very last. And so that from the world no harm our souls should dread, Round your beloved self vast seas of love I spread. Translated by Dan Duţescu
