Inside a cosy cocoon
the butterfly to be
received in a dream
a glimpse of her future beauty
the mirror gave her an ideal
to strive for
a duty
to become, to grow
She grew fast and tall,
yet her home stayed small
and tight
she stretched, pulled and tried
to break the skin,
set that tender spirit free,
let go yet not to fall
wait till she was ready
to fly,
determined to fight
for the vision before her eyes
Today the struggle is still on
in that dark prison cell all alone;
still the walls will be thinning soon,
tear open to let her through,
spread her wings and rise
above her own trembling disguise
