He stood on the corner
of my street one day,
as if to remind me…
giving him a coin
or a chocolate cake
made me feel good…
he was silent,
never spoke;
a life forgotten by time,
helpless despair in rags,
a proud, educated man
humbled by a cruel society,
his unkempt body
used to wind and rain,
accepting whatever came…
he made me think,
wonder how and why,
hoping to see him once more
a shadow in the corner
with kind hopeful eyes…
reaching deep into my soul
turning it inside out,
never to be the same again...
