“Meglenian-Frenglish company, hires 2500 Romanian cosmic rats for work abroad (Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Neptune and Pluto). Minimum requirements: height – over 180 cm, good diction, pleasant being, with no criminal record, car owner, college degree, good computer skills, excellent skills in at least 3 foreign languages, orphan, unmarried, not a member of the former “Securitate” agency. More information can be obtained by calling a number we will later specify. The interview will be held as soon as possible at the company’s headquarters, which you will have to discover yourselves.”
Yet, no less than 17.500 candidates attended the interview (which lasted at least three days and three nights), including myself, although I’m not very ratty, such as my father, I don’t have a car, such as my father, and I’m not 180 cm tall, such as my father. But my father did not apply for the job, because he will not sell his country. From the total of 2500 accepted applicants – surprise! – 2499 withdrew, and there was one left: me. Not because I was wangled, but because I am the “ideal, determined, sociable” man, “a self-adjusting hypercomplex system”. So, I went to Italy (I was taken in), where I was hired at the morgue (for washing corpses), and lived happily and prosperously ever after. But throughout all 40 years that I worked there, I never washed the body of an acquaintance. Maybe because I was a foreigner there. And this is why I died, of a heart-broken.
