As I awoke to a calm and bright morning,
I never imagined that I would drown in painful mourning.
I felt as if my body had lost its soul
because you were no longer with me to protect and hold.
Like a bird, you taught me how to fly
And with your love, how to dream high.
Your actions and words were an inspiration to me
And through your footsteps I wish to follow thee.
At first I thought that we would never again see each other
But a bird told me that we would be forever linked to one another.
Your spirit made me realize that you were now in a better place,
And now I will live counting the days when we again will embrace.
As a great poet once wrote: '' Death is a short sleep. ''
And like the bird, I know that you are now free.
I will live each day as if it were my last
So I can accomplish my dreams and my fears can pass.
