Biografía cora denise manole

Born in Constanta under the sign of Pisces. Went to college in Bucharest and stayed there. No great achievements whatsoever, but an ex-friend of mine who used to be The Magus of Wales back in the medieval times and who would have a drink or two in hell with Eminescu in the current century told me I was a well-taught and reputed healer in a previous life. So I guess that leaves some room for hope.
I started writing when I was about twenty and I started writing in English, since I felt I would have more freedom in that particular linguistic hideout. Very few of my initial poems actually had value, a fact I came aware of some years later, when my writing got (relatively) better. That didn't necessarily mean stylistic improvement, but deeper and more accurate self-knowledge, complemented by growing cynicism which hopefully prevented me from embracing a rather formulaic and pedantic discourse.
I'm a moderate feminist (oxymoronic as it may sound) and my female role-models are Jane Campion, Tori Amos and Sylvia Plath. Their intensity sort of makes mine feel safe. I believe asymmetries give beauty an interesting look. I love sepia and things with a history. I'm fascinated with both children and old people. I don't believe in linear time.
I was the culture editor for a Romanian women’s magazine (now there’s an oxymoron!), which provided some amazing raw material for a character study, despite my fish-out-of-water condition. Currently, I’m a full-time spell-checker for a prominent daily newspaper, which basically implies making people with pathological grammar issues sound decent, even if not particularly smart. I’m also writing movie reviews for “Orizont”, a cultural mag in Timisoara, and I authored the first chapter of my novel. I’m crazy about Fellini, Bergman, Woody Allen, Richard Linklater and Krzysztof Kieślowski and I regard Milan Kundera as my long-distance menthor.
